My dear friends, I’d like to begin today by telling you a story about one of my favourite places in the world – my father’s garden. Growing up, my father’s garden was always a source of solace and peace. He’d spend hours tending to his plants; digging, weeding, pruning, and harvesting. He’d often tell me that a good gardener knows when to wait, and when to let nature take its course. As I’ve grown older and experienced both joy and sorrow, I’ve come to understand his words in a new way.
Today I’d like to talk about trusting God and His perfect timing. We live in a world where impatience is the norm. We want things done quickly and efficiently; we want results right away. But God’s timing is different. Scripture tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under the sun. This means that while we may be tempted to rush ahead, God has a plan and a purpose for our lives that He will reveal in due time.
The first key idea I’d like to explore is that of hope. When tragedy strikes and life throws us curveballs, it can be difficult to stay hopeful. We can feel helpless and powerless in the face of adversity. But friends, we must remember that God is in control and He has not forgotten us. Isaiah 40:31 tells us that those who wait on the Lord will find strength. No matter how bleak things may seem, we must stay hopeful in the knowledge that God will bring us peace and comfort in His own time.
The second key idea I’d like to explore is that of faithfulness. When we are patient and trust in God’s timing, it shows our faithfulness to Him. We show Him that we believe in His plan and that we are willing to wait on Him. Psalm 33:20-22 reminds us that when we wait on the Lord, He will give us our hearts desires; not necessarily what we want, but what He knows is best for us.
The third key idea I’d like to explore is that of wisdom. Waiting on God’s timing can be difficult and it can require a great deal of wisdom to know when to wait and when to act. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us that if we trust in the Lord with all our heart, He will make our paths straight. We must seek His guidance and ask for His wisdom as we navigate through difficult times.
My dear friends, God’s timing is best, so let us be patient and trust Him. As we wait on Him, let us also remember the words of James 1:2-4 which tells us that we should consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds; for when we do, we know that our faith will be tested and strengthened. Let us trust in the Lord, who makes all things beautiful in His time.
